A baby elephant wallows in the mud, but then found himself unable to stand up again. Heavy rain in the Masai Mara created the perfect mud hole, and the youngster wasted no time in going for a roll. However, when he tried to get to his feet again, he was simply unable to stand and kept slipping over. The moment was captured on camera by professional wildlife photographer Andy Rouse, who had been following the herd. Picture: Andy Rouse / Rex Features https://www.facebook.com/andyrousephoto

Pink Panther at Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa by Deon De Villiers Tourists had reported seeing the fashion-forward feline, but only recently Deon De Villiers, a photographer and safari guide, caught the kitty on film. He sent the photo to Panthera, a wild cat conservation group. The light-furred leopard may have erythrism said Panthera's president, Luke Hunter, in National Geographic. Erythrism is a genetic condition believed to cause production of either too much red or too little dark pigment. "It's really rare — I don't know of another credible example in leopards," said Hunter. The leopard doesn't seem to be suffering from his condition. "He's obviously a successful animal," Hunter said. The danger is if he leaves the borders of the preserve. Then his pale pelt could end up as a trophy hunter's prize. Photo: Fair-furred leopard. Courtesy of Deon De Villiers of SafaGraphics.

The hoatzin is a very crazy looking bird- its mohican is surely unrivalled in the animal kingdom. Their young have specially adapted claws so that if a predator attacks the nest the young can jump out, before climbing the tree to get back in once the danger has passed. The prehistoric weirdness doesn't stop there, the call of the hoatzin resembles an old man with asthma! They live around the edges of tropical forest lakes where they eat aquatic vegetation. Hoatzin are usually very shy which makes getting photos of them difficult. This particular one was shot in a lake, near the Crees research station, Peru, where the hoatzin were particularly tolerant. by Bertie Gregory Photography To keep up to date with my latest photographic ventures: Website Facebook Twitter

African Golden Cat Rare Footage of Africa Golden Cat Obtained with Calvin Klein Cologne

Rare Footage of the African Golden Cat
Camera trap footage from the jungles of Uganda has revealed rare images of an African golden cat, as well as providing evidence that the cat behaves contrary to what was previously believed.
Based on the camera trap footage, which was taken in Uganda’s Kibale National Park by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the big cat conservation group Panthera, researchers determined the African golden cat is actually cathemeral, meaning it’s active both at night and during the day.
African golden cats have only rarely been seen by scientists, and not much is known about them.
The newly released camera trap footage adds to a rare collection of images of the African golden cat. The first wild footage of the rare cats was taken in 2011 by Panthera scientists in Gabon.
Interestingly, the researchers used the cologne Calvin Klein Obsession for Men to lure the cat near the camera trap, where it marked the area with its scent. The cologne is frequently used by researchers to attract cats and other wildlife to remote cameras.(Photo : WCS/Panthera)

Animals are also victims of war - and in Congo, that means the beautiful okapi. The alert about the okapi follows a new assessment of its population in its only home, the rainforests of the eastern side of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. For nearly 20 years, this region has been one of the most dangerous places on earth, for humans and for animals both, ever since the 1994 Hutu-Tutsi genocide in Rwanda spilled over the border into the DRC and sparked continuous conflict between the government and a shifting assortment of rebel groups, in what became known as "Africa's world war".
